Bluetooth Module Library for Proteus – Free Download for Proteus Library

Introduction

Working on a Bluetooth-based Arduino project and want to test it in Proteus before touching hardware? You're in the right place! In this post, I’ll share a custom Bluetooth Library for Proteus, which allows you to simulate popular modules like HC-05 and HC-06 directly within Proteus.

This library is a must-have for electronics students, hobbyists, and developers looking to simulate wireless communication between a microcontroller (like Arduino UNO) and a mobile device or other Bluetooth modules.

Why Simulate Bluetooth in Proteus?

Proteus doesn’t include Bluetooth modules by default, so if you want to simulate sending and receiving data over serial Bluetooth (like mobile to Arduino), you need a custom model. This library solves that problem by providing a visual and functional model of the HC-05/HC-06 module that connects over UART (TX/RX).

With it, you can:

  • Test serial communication between Arduino and HC-05.

  • Simulate mobile app data transfer.

  • Integrate it into larger automation or IoT simulations.

What’s Inside the Library?

Once you extract the ZIP file, you’ll find:

  • BluetoothTEP.LIB

  • BluetoothTEP.IDX

The .LIB and .IDX files define the Proteus model.

How to Install the Bluetooth Library in Proteus 8

  1. Extract the downloaded ZIP file.

  2. Copy the .LIB and .IDX files into the following folder:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
  3. Restart Proteus.

  4. Now go to Pick Devices and search for "Bluetooth Module".

How to Use the Bluetooth Module in Simulation

  1. Place the Bluetooth Module on your Proteus workspace.

  2. Connect the module's TX to Arduino RX, and RX to Arduino TX.

  3. Upload a sketch in Arduino IDE that reads/writes from the serial port.

  4. Simulate communication by sending data from a Virtual Terminal or simulate app input/output using UART.

Now that you've installed the Bluetooth Library for Proteus, let’s see how it works by creating a simple circuit to simulate communication between two HC-05 Bluetooth modules.

Step-by-Step Circuit Setup

  1. Design a basic circuit using two HC-05 modules and connect them to Virtual Terminals.

  2. Refer to the diagram below for proper wiring.

Configure COM Ports for Each Bluetooth Module

  • Click on the first HC-05 module, and a configuration window will appear.

  • In that window, set COM1 for the first HC-05 module.

  • Repeat the same for the second HC-05, and assign it to COM2.

Note: These COM ports should be virtually linked so the modules can communicate. You can use tools like Virtual Serial Port Driver or com0com to create paired virtual COM ports.

Start the Simulation

  • Once everything is wired and configured, run the simulation in Proteus.

  • Now, whatever you send in the first Virtual Terminal will appear in the second one, and vice versa.

  • This simulates real-time Bluetooth communication between two modules — just like how they work in real-world Arduino projects!

Use Case Examples

  • Controlling LEDs, motors, or relays from a mobile app.

  • Receiving sensor values on your smartphone via Bluetooth.

  • Simulating wireless home automation systems before deployment.
